Weather Alert: Boise Braces for Heavy Showers and Patchy Fog Tuesday Into Wednesday

BOISE, Idaho — Commuters in southwestern Idaho should prepare for heavy showers, thunderstorms, and patchy fog as unstable weather moves into the Treasure Valley from Tuesday evening through Wednesday morning.

Rainfall and Visibility Concerns

The National Weather Service said rainfall totals could reach half an inch in some areas, with thunderstorms developing after sunset Tuesday and lasting into early Wednesday.

Patchy fog is expected overnight, reducing visibility to less than a mile in spots, especially along Interstate 84, raising risks of hydroplaning and traffic delays.

Wednesday Outlook

By Wednesday afternoon, showers are forecast to taper off with partly sunny skies returning, though wet pavement and lingering fog may still impact drivers. Conditions are expected to improve further on Thursday as warmer, drier air moves back into the region.

Highs in Boise will reach the mid-70s Tuesday, dropping to the low 50s overnight. Nearby communities such as Meridian and Nampa are likely to see heavier fog pooling in low-lying areas.

Extended Forecast

October will begin unsettled, but a gradual warmup is expected by late week. Outdoor events and harvest activities should benefit from calmer, sunnier weather starting Thursday.

The five-day forecast for Boise includes:

  • Tuesday: Showers, storms, patchy fog late. High 74, low 54.
  • Wednesday: Morning showers, partly sunny. High 72, low 52.
  • Thursday: Mostly sunny, drier. High 68, low 47.
  • Friday: Partly cloudy, cool morning. High 70, low 45.
  • Saturday: Sunny and mild. High 71, low 42.

Travel Safety

Officials urge drivers to allow extra time, use low beams in fog, and avoid speeding on slick roads. Warnings will remain in effect through early Wednesday, with updates expected Tuesday night as storms build.
