Janesville Man Arrested for Trafficking Missing North Carolina Juvenile

A 29-year-old man has been arrested in Wisconsin after police say he traveled to North Carolina, met with a missing and endangered juvenile, and brought her back to his home in Janesville. According to WKOW, the arrest followed a multi-state investigation initiated by the Clay County Sheriff’s Office in North Carolina.

Tip From North Carolina Leads to Arrest

The case began around 2:03 p.m. on August 12, when Clay County investigators alerted the Janesville Police Department (JPD) that Adam V. Gurney had allegedly met with the juvenile in North Carolina before returning with her to Wisconsin. Clay County authorities subsequently issued an arrest warrant for Gurney.

Surveillance and Capture

JPD officers set up surveillance at Gurney’s residence and soon spotted him with the juvenile entering a vehicle in the driveway. Police moved in, took Gurney into custody without incident, and arranged for the teen to be reunited with her father.

Search and Charges

Following the arrest, police executed a search warrant at Gurney’s home. He was booked into the Rock County Jail on charges of:

  • Trafficking of a Child
  • Child Enticement
  • Sexual Intercourse with a Child Over 16

Officials have not disclosed further details about how the suspect and juvenile initially made contact.

Ongoing Investigation

Authorities say the investigation is ongoing, with the possibility of additional charges depending on the results of forensic analysis from the search warrant.
