Georgia and Atlanta See Major Crime Rate Drops, FBI Credits Coordinated Law Enforcement

ATLANTA, Ga. – Georgia and its capital city have recorded significant decreases in both violent and property crimes, according to the FBI’s annual crime report. Officials say the success is due to sustained, coordinated action between federal, state, and local law enforcement.

The data, as reported by FOX 5 Atlanta, shows that in 2024, violent crime in Georgia dropped by 10.5%, while property crime fell by 9.8%. Atlanta mirrored these gains, reflecting a broader nationwide trend.

FBI Credits Long-Term Partnerships

Paul Brown, Special Agent in Charge of the FBI’s Atlanta division, said the results came from a “very focused, sustained effort on violent crime” involving multiple agencies.

“We have surge resources along with our partners… and we are going to continue to focus our efforts to bring additional resources, partnered closely with federal, state, and local law enforcement agencies and really, every tool, resource we have to bear to keep our community safe,” Brown said.

Nationwide Crime Decline

The FBI’s report shows violent crime nationwide declined by 4.5%, while property crime fell by 8.1%. The improvement comes as cities across the U.S. work to strengthen community-police relations, with events like National Night Out aiming to boost public trust.

Challenges Remain

Despite the encouraging statistics, law enforcement officials caution that crime has not disappeared. In one recent case, Coweta County deputies caught 43-year-old Walter Ruffin in the act of a burglary, leading to multiple charges including first-degree home invasion.

The incident underscores what officials call the “continued need for vigilance,” even as long-term trends show progress.
