Heavy Rain Racing Out of Bexar County, San Antonio Texas as Patchy Rain and Drizzle Linger Overnight Into Tuesday Morning Commute

BEXAR COUNTY, TEXAS — A significant area of moderate to heavy rainfall that has been impacting the San Antonio and Bexar County region is now racing eastward as of 10:30 PM Monday night, bringing some relief to communities that have dealt with heavy precipitation throughout the evening. However, forecasters are warning that the departure of the main rain shield does not mean dry conditions are returning overnight, as patchy rain, mist, and drizzle are expected to linger across Bexar County through the overnight hours and into Tuesday morning’s commute.

Live Power Doppler radar captured at 10:30 PM Monday shows the heaviest precipitation core pushing eastward through the New Braunfels, Gonzales, and Waelder corridor, with the trailing edge of the system still draped across portions of San Antonio and surrounding communities.

Main Rain Core Pushing East Through the New Braunfels Corridor

The most intense portion of the storm system is now moving rapidly eastward, tracking through communities including New Braunfels, La Vernia, Nixon, Gonzales, and Yoakum as of late Monday night. Radar shows the heaviest cells, indicated by yellow, orange, and red returns, concentrated along and east of the Interstate 10 corridor stretching from New Braunfels through Waelder and toward Schulenburg.

Lightning strikes are also visible on radar near the Gonzales and Yoakum area, indicating that the departing system still carries enough energy to produce isolated thunderstorm activity as it tracks east through the region.

Bexar County Faces Patchy Rain and Drizzle Overnight

While the main heavy rain event is wrapping up for San Antonio and the broader Bexar County area, residents should not expect a completely dry night. Forecasters confirmed at 10:35 PM that patchy rain, mist, and drizzle will remain in the area through the overnight hours, with those conditions potentially persisting into Tuesday morning.

That lingering moisture is a concern for the Tuesday morning commute across San Antonio and Bexar County, as wet roadways, reduced visibility from mist and drizzle, and potentially slick surfaces could create hazardous driving conditions for early morning travelers heading into work.

Tuesday Morning Commute Could Be Impacted

Commuters across San Antonio, Hollywood Park, Boerne, Lakehills, Floresville, and surrounding Bexar County communities should plan for slower than normal travel conditions Tuesday morning. Mist and drizzle reduce visibility and create slick road surfaces even without heavy rainfall, and the combination of overnight wet conditions carrying into the early morning hours means roads may not have had sufficient time to dry before peak commute traffic builds.

Drivers are advised to allow extra travel time, increase following distances, and use headlights during the Tuesday morning commute as patchy precipitation continues across the region.
