Massive Late-Night Fire Destroys Abandoned Seneca Home on Ames Street
SENECA, SOUTH CAROLINA — Fire crews in Seneca worked late into Saturday night to contain a fast-moving blaze that completely destroyed an abandoned home on Ames Street. The intense fire lit up the neighborhood and drew multiple emergency units as crews fought for hours to bring it under control.
Firefighters Arrived to Find Home Fully Engulfed
According to the City of Seneca Fire Department, firefighters were dispatched around 9:51 p.m. on Saturday, November 1, after reports of heavy flames coming from a residence in the Utica section of the city. Battalion 7, Engine 74, and Truck 2 were among the units responding.
When crews arrived, they found the home fully engulfed, with fire spreading dangerously close to neighboring houses. Firefighters immediately began defensive operations to protect nearby structures while attacking the main blaze.
Abandoned Home Reduced to Rubble
Officials confirmed that the residence had been abandoned and without power for some time. No one was inside when the fire broke out, and no injuries were reported. Firefighters spent several hours ensuring that all hot spots were extinguished and that the scene was fully secure before clearing the area.
Photos shared by the department show bright orange flames tearing through the roof, heavy smoke blanketing nearby streets, and fire crews working under difficult nighttime conditions.
Fire Department Thanks Mutual Aid Crews
The Seneca Fire Department expressed gratitude to its mutual aid and rescue partners for helping contain the blaze. “Crews spent a number of hours controlling and then working to make sure all hot spots were extinguished. We want to thank all our mutual aid and rescue companies for their help,” the department said in a statement.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation, though officials confirmed there were no signs of foul play as of early reports.
