RALEIGH, N.C. — Authorities have issued an Amber Alert for 14-year-old Nevaeh Hope Patton, who went missing from her home in Mitchell County, a mountainous region in western North Carolina bordering Tennessee.

According to the Mitchell County Sheriff’s Office, Nevaeh was last seen around 10 p.m. on Saturday near her residence along Harrell Hill Road, close to N.C. Highway 226 — approximately seven miles west of Bakersville, the county seat.

Amber Alert Issued Sunday Afternoon

The statewide alert was activated just after 3:10 p.m. on Sunday, designating Nevaeh as an endangered child. Initial details about her disappearance were shared earlier that afternoon by local deputies.

Authorities released a photo of Nevaeh holding a bird, hoping it will help the public recognize her more easily.

Nevaeh is described as 5 feet 9 inches tall, weighing around 140 pounds, with blonde hair and brown eyes. Officials noted that her hair has pink and red highlights that may make her more identifiable.

“Our department is working with multiple agencies to locate Nevaeh as quickly and safely as possible,” officials from the Mitchell County Sheriff’s Office said in a statement Sunday evening. “We are urging the public to remain alert and to report any sightings immediately.”

Community and Law Enforcement Response

Mitchell County — located about 60 miles northeast of Asheville — has seen an increased law enforcement presence since the alert was issued. Deputies, state police, and volunteer search teams have been canvassing the area, focusing on rural roads and wooded trails near the Tennessee border.

Residents have been encouraged to check home security footage and doorbell cameras for any potential clues.

The North Carolina Center for Missing Persons confirmed that the Amber Alert will remain active until Nevaeh is located or further updates are provided.
