South Carolina Man Arrested on Multiple Drug and Firearm Charges During Home Search

SUMTER, SOUTH CAROLINA — A 32-year-old Sumter man was taken into custody after authorities discovered drugs and a firearm during a search of his home, according to the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office.

Officials identified the suspect as Celestino Anthony Gonzalez Jr., who was arrested following the October 16 search that led to the seizure of cocaine and other controlled substances.

Drugs and Gun Found During Operation

Deputies said the bust was part of an ongoing narcotics investigation targeting illegal drug activity in the Sumter area. When officers executed a search warrant at Gonzalez’s residence, they uncovered evidence linking him to trafficking and distribution operations.

The sheriff’s office confirmed that Gonzalez was found in possession of trafficking quantities of cocaine, additional narcotics, and a firearm, which he was not legally allowed to possess due to prior felony convictions.

Multiple Felony Charges Filed

Gonzalez is now facing several serious charges, including:

  • Trafficking cocaine
  • Manufacture, possession, and distribution of narcotics
  • Possession of a weapon during a violent crime
  • Possession of a firearm by a convicted violent felon
  • Possession of a firearm by a person convicted of certain crimes

Authorities say the combination of drugs and weapons underscores the dangerous nature of local drug operations.

“This arrest is another step in removing dangerous narcotics and illegal firearms from our community,” the sheriff’s office said in a statement. “We remain committed to holding repeat offenders accountable.”

Suspect in Custody, Bond Set at $35,000

Gonzalez was booked into the Sumter County Detention Center, where he remains in custody. His bond has been set at $35,000, according to the sheriff’s office.

Officials did not release further details about the amount of cocaine seized or whether additional arrests are expected in connection with the investigation.

Community Encouraged to Report Drug Activity

Law enforcement continues to urge residents to report suspicious drug activity to help combat narcotics distribution in the area.

“If you see something, say something,” the sheriff’s office advised, noting that anonymous tips can be submitted through Crime Stoppers or directly to the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office.
