Knoxville Teen Driving 100 MPH Crashes Into Home, Faces Multiple Charges

KNOXVILLE, TENNESSEE — An 18-year-old Knoxville teen is facing serious charges after reportedly driving 100 mph in a residential area and crashing into a home in Powell late Monday night, according to a police report obtained by local authorities.

Crash Caught Neighbors by Surprise

The incident occurred around 11 p.m. on Fieldstone Farms Lane, where emergency responders with Rural Metro Fire and other local agencies rushed to the scene. The car, traveling at extreme speed, went off the road and slammed into the side of a house.

Despite the violent crash, officials said it was a “miracle” that no one was injured. A person was inside the house at the time, and two passengers were in the car, but all escaped unharmed.

Driver Reportedly Admitted to Speeding

Police identified the driver as 18-year-old Jayden Ingersoll, who allegedly told officers he had been speeding before the crash. According to the police report, Ingersoll said he was traveling approximately 100 mph in a 30 mph zone before losing control.

“The arrestee advised that he normally drives that same route at an extremely high rate of speed,” the report stated. Officers inspecting the crash site found multiple scrape marks on the asphalt, consistent with the car’s undercarriage bottoming out as it topped two hills at high speed.

After hitting a tree, the vehicle crashed into the home with such force that its speedometer was found stuck at 60 mph after impact.

Passengers Warned Him to Slow Down

The report also revealed that the two passengers repeatedly asked Ingersoll to slow down during the drive, but he refused. Authorities said his reckless behavior not only endangered his passengers but also the residents of the home and the surrounding neighborhood.

Charges and Investigation

Ingersoll was arrested and charged with aggravated assault, reckless endangerment, and vandalism. Police noted that while no injuries occurred, the potential for serious harm was “extremely high” given the speed and residential setting.

Rural Metro Fire shared photos from the crash site, showing the car embedded into the home’s exterior wall. Officials said structural damage was significant, but the house remains stable.

Community Reaction and Safety Reminder

Local residents expressed shock at the incident, calling it a reminder of the dangers of reckless driving, especially in suburban areas where speed limits are low. Authorities urged young drivers to follow posted limits and remember that “reckless speed can turn deadly in seconds.”
