Florida Police Searching for Man Who Escaped by Scuba Diving After Disney Springs Restaurant Robbery
ORLANDO, Fla. — Florida authorities are searching for a man who staged a daring robbery at Paddlefish, a floating Disney Springs restaurant, before making his escape by scuba diving into the surrounding waterways.
Unusual Getaway at Disney Springs
According to police, the robbery happened shortly after midnight Sunday. Two Paddlefish employees were counting the night’s earnings when a man suddenly appeared, tied them up, and stole between $10,000 and $20,000 in cash.
The suspect reportedly used scuba gear to swim up to the boat, then spray-painted security cameras before stashing his equipment. After grabbing the cash, he suited back up and dove into the water to flee.
Employees Unharmed
Authorities said the two workers were left shaken but physically unharmed. They managed to untie themselves and called 911 immediately after the suspect escaped.
Police conducted a search of the waterways surrounding Disney Springs but were unable to locate the man.
Risky Escape Route
Investigators noted that the waterways around Disney Springs are home to alligators, highlighting the extreme risks of the suspect’s chosen getaway path.
The robbery report, which was heavily redacted, left unclear exactly how the suspect reached safety after entering the water.
