Two People in Wheelchairs Struck by Vehicle in Goldsboro; One Dead, One Injured
GOLDSBORO, NORTH CAROLINA – Police say one woman was killed and a man was injured after both were struck by a vehicle while using wheelchairs on a Goldsboro roadway Friday morning .
Crash on South John Street
The Goldsboro Police Department reported that officers responded around 10 a.m. Friday to the 1500 block of South John Street, where a crash had occurred involving a northbound vehicle and two pedestrians in wheelchairs.
When officers arrived, they found a man and a woman suffering from injuries after being struck in the two-lane roadway .
Victim Identified
Emergency responders pronounced 45-year-old Cheniko Pugh dead at the scene. The male victim was transported to a nearby hospital for treatment of his injuries. His identity and condition have not yet been released .
Investigation and Road Closure
According to investigators, the driver was traveling north on South John Street when the collision occurred. Impairment was not found to be a factor in the crash.
Police closed South John Street between Littleton Place and Shamrock Avenue for nearly 11 hours to process the scene and conduct their investigation .
At this time, no charges have been announced against the driver, and the investigation remains ongoing.
