Novant Health Approved to Build 20-Bed Hospital in Greenville, SC
GREENVILLE, SC — As Greenville continues to grow, its healthcare infrastructure is expanding alongside it. Novant Health has received approval to build a new 20-bed hospital in Greenville, with construction plans already in motion following the state’s approval of its Certificate of Need.
A response to local healthcare demand
The South Carolina Department of Public Health approved Novant Health’s application in June. The new hospital will focus on outpatient care, while also including operating rooms, specialty services, and diagnostic imaging. It has been designed with the flexibility to expand as the region’s healthcare needs evolve.
Jason Bernd, Senior Vice President at Novant Health, said, “As one of the fastest-growing areas in the state, Greenville deserves expanded access to high-quality care close to home.”
What the new facility will offer
-
20 inpatient beds
-
Outpatient procedures
-
Operating rooms
-
Diagnostic imaging
-
Specialty physician services
-
Designed for future expansion
The project aligns with Novant Health’s broader goal of enhancing access to affordable, patient-centered care throughout the state. The company plans to recruit medical experts, boost care coordination, and customize services to the specific needs of the Greenville area.
Part of a broader South Carolina strategy
This isn’t Novant Health’s first investment in the state. In September 2024, the health system launched construction of a full-service hospital campus in Bluffton. The nonprofit currently operates a wide network of facilities, including urgent care centers, hospitals, and outpatient clinics across South Carolina’s coastal and inland regions.
In April 2025, Ryan Lee was appointed as president of Novant Health’s operations in Greenville, reflecting the system’s growing focus on the Upstate region.
The overall Novant Health network includes:
-
19 hospitals
-
750+ physician clinics
-
900+ total locations across multiple states
-
Services including pharmacy, imaging, and urgent care
