Douglasville Woman Fatally Shot by Husband; Police Open Fire on Armed Suspect, GBI Confirms
DOUGLASVILLE, Ga. — The Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) is investigating a deadly domestic shooting that left a woman dead and led officers to open fire on her armed husband Saturday night.
Domestic Dispute Turns Deadly
Police responded to a 911 call around 9:27 p.m. reporting a domestic disturbance at a home on Littlebrook Way. When officers arrived, they found a woman lying unresponsive in the yard and a man standing nearby with a handgun.
Authorities identified the suspect as 51-year-old Volanta Lejuan Walker and the victim as his wife, 56-year-old Sabrina Walker. Investigators believe the couple argued inside their home before Volanta chased his wife outside and shot her, killing her at the scene.
Police Open Fire After Suspect Points Gun
According to investigators, officers ordered Volanta Walker to drop his weapon, but he refused and pointed the gun toward police. One officer then fired, striking Walker. Officers rendered first aid until paramedics arrived, and he was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment.
Officials confirmed that Sabrina Walker was pronounced dead at the scene, and her body will be sent to the GBI Crime Lab for autopsy.
Two Investigations Underway
The GBI says it has launched two separate investigations — one into the homicide of Sabrina Walker and another into the officer-involved shooting. Once completed, the officer-involved shooting case will be reviewed by the Douglas County District Attorney’s Office, while the homicide case will proceed for prosecution.
This tragic event marks one of several domestic violence-related shootings reported in Georgia this fall. Law enforcement officials continue to urge residents to seek help when facing domestic disputes before they escalate.
