Teacher Arrested After Acting Erratically in Class — Students Alerted Police
RALEIGH, NORTH CAROLINA — A North Carolina teacher was arrested after students reported her acting erratically during class, prompting a police response that revealed she was allegedly under the influence of narcotics while on school grounds.
According to police reports, officers were called to the school after a concerned student informed staff that their teacher appeared to be “off” and was behaving unusually during lessons. When police arrived, they immediately observed signs of impairment.
K9 Unit Alerts to Possible Drugs
Officers questioned the teacher, who admitted to having “some things” in her purse. A K9 unit was brought in to inspect the area, and the dog alerted to the presence of narcotics. Police subsequently searched the purse and discovered substances consistent with illegal drugs.
As officers questioned her, the teacher began displaying further signs of distress and was taken to a local hospital for evaluation. While at the hospital, officers continued their investigation, and after consulting with school officials and reviewing evidence, they placed her under arrest.
All of the interactions — from the initial school response to the arrest at the hospital — were captured on police bodycam footage, which has since circulated online.
Students and Parents in Shock
Parents and students expressed disbelief after learning about the incident. One student who reported the teacher’s behavior said they were frightened but felt something had to be done.
“She wasn’t acting like herself — it was scary,” the student reportedly told officers. “We just didn’t know what was going on.”
Parents have called for stricter school safety measures, including routine drug screenings for staff and stronger mental health support programs within schools.
District Responds to Incident
The school district issued a brief statement confirming that the teacher has been placed on administrative leave pending an investigation.
“We take all allegations of employee misconduct seriously,” the statement read. “The safety and well-being of our students remain our top priority. We are cooperating fully with law enforcement as the investigation continues.”
Ongoing Investigation
Authorities have not yet released the teacher’s identity but confirmed that criminal charges related to drug possession and endangerment are expected.
“This was a concerning situation, but thanks to the attentiveness of the students and swift action by school staff, it was handled safely,” a police spokesperson said.
The case remains under active investigation, and more details are expected to be released once formal charges are filed.
