Driver dies after car leaves road twice before overturning in Berkeley Co. crash

Driver Killed After Truck Overturns in Berkeley County Crash, Officials Say

BERKELEY COUNTY, SOUTH CAROLINA — The South Carolina Highway Patrol is investigating a deadly crash that claimed the life of one driver Sunday afternoon after a truck veered off the road twice before overturning in Berkeley County.

The incident occurred around 1:23 p.m. on Cypress Campground Road, according to Master Trooper Hannah Davidson. Investigators said a 2006 Ford F-150 was traveling west when it first went off the right side of the roadway, then overcorrected and veered off the left side before overturning.

Victim Died from Crash Injuries

Authorities confirmed the driver suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. The Berkeley County Coroner’s Office has not yet released the victim’s name pending family notification.

According to the South Carolina Highway Patrol, no other vehicles were involved in the accident. Troopers are still working to determine what caused the driver to lose control of the truck.

Investigation Continues

Local deputies and emergency crews responded quickly to the crash site, which remained partially closed for several hours as authorities examined tire marks and debris patterns to piece together what happened.

Troopers say single-vehicle crashes involving overcorrection are a common cause of rollovers in rural areas like Berkeley County, particularly on narrow or curving roads. They continue to urge drivers to remain cautious, avoid distractions, and reduce speed when approaching turns.

The crash remains under investigation by the South Carolina Highway Patrol and the Berkeley County Coroner’s Office. Additional details are expected to be released once next of kin have been notified.
