Coastal Flooding Prompts Advisory for Wilmington; Sunshine Returns Midweek
WILMINGTON, N.C. — The National Weather Service (NWS) in Wilmington has issued a Coastal Flood Advisory in effect through 7 p.m. Tuesday, warning residents of minor flooding in low-lying areas as brisk onshore winds push high tides inland along the Cape Fear River and nearby tidal inlets.
Flooding Impacts Downtown and Coastal Roads
According to the Country Herald Weather Center, up to half a foot of water above ground level is possible in flood-prone spots, especially downtown Wilmington near Water Street and around the USS North Carolina.
Storm drains and low-lying parking areas could flood during the afternoon high tide, and officials advise motorists to avoid driving through standing water.
The New Hanover County Emergency Management Office is monitoring coastal levels closely and said flooding is expected to subside by late evening as tides recede.
Calmer Conditions by Wednesday
By Wednesday, high pressure will build across the region, bringing a stretch of clear skies, mild afternoons, and cool mornings. Winds are forecast to ease to around 10 mph, with daytime highs near 76°F and overnight lows in the low 50s.
Forecasters say this dry, stable pattern will continue through the weekend, providing ideal fall weather for outdoor events, travel, and beach walks across New Hanover and Brunswick counties.
