Dangerous Surf And Flood Alert

Florida Weather Alert: Dangerous Surf, Coastal Flooding, and Rip Currents Through Tuesday

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — A persistent onshore wind pattern is keeping Florida’s northeast coast under weather alerts for high surf, rip currents, and minor coastal flooding through early Tuesday morning, according to the National Weather Service (NWS) Jacksonville.

High Surf and Rip Current Risk Remain Dangerous

The NWS has extended both a Coastal Flood Advisory and a High Surf Advisory as strong winds continue pushing waves over six feet along the shoreline. A High Rip Current Risk remains in effect through late Monday night, making swimming conditions extremely hazardous across beaches in Jacksonville, St. Augustine, and Fernandina Beach.

Forecasters said tides will stay elevated into Tuesday, particularly around the St. Johns River basin and coastal access roads, where minor flooding is likely.
“Even strong swimmers can be pulled into deeper water,” officials cautioned. “Residents should avoid entering the ocean and steer clear of dune areas or flooded beach roads.”

Drivers Urged to Use Caution Along A1A

Authorities warn that drivers along State Road A1A may encounter standing water and sand drift, especially during high tide. Local emergency managers are advising motorists to avoid parking close to dunes and to turn around when encountering flooded roadways.

The Coastal Flood Advisory is set to remain active until 5 a.m. Tuesday, while the High Surf Advisory will expire earlier, around 2 a.m. Monday.

Conditions Improve Midweek

Weather models show gradual improvement beginning Tuesday as winds weaken and sunshine returns. Temperatures are expected to rise into the low 80s, with drier air and calmer seas.

By midweek, northern Florida will see its first touch of fall, with cooler mornings, clear skies, and excellent visibility for outdoor school events, farmers markets, and coastal walks.

Looking Ahead
