Upstate Man Wanted for Three Years Arrested After Traffic Stop in Georgia
EASTANOLLEE, Ga. — An Upstate South Carolina fugitive who managed to evade capture for three years has finally been arrested following a traffic stop in northeast Georgia, according to investigators.
Fugitive Caught After Years on the Run
Deputies with the Stephens County Sheriff’s Office said 30-year-old Cody Price, a wanted man from Westminster, South Carolina, was taken into custody Thursday afternoon after authorities pulled over a GMC commercial truck on Swilling Road around 1:45 p.m.
Price had been wanted on multiple felony warrants by several South Carolina law enforcement agencies — including the S.C. Department of Probation, Parole and Supervision, as well as sheriff’s offices in Pickens, Anderson, and Oconee counties, according to WYFF 4 News.
Attempted Escape During Arrest
Investigators said that during the stop, Price gave officers a false name and date of birth before attempting to run away from deputies. A brief foot chase followed, ending in a physical altercation before Price was finally restrained and taken into custody.
Deputies said he was found carrying multiple South Carolina identification cards that did not belong to him.
Facing Multiple Charges in Two States
Price was booked into the Stephens County Jail on the following local charges:
- Felony obstruction of a law enforcement officer
- Providing false information to law enforcement
He remains in custody pending a bond hearing and extradition to South Carolina, where he faces several outstanding felony cases tied to prior investigations.
Second Arrest Made During Investigation
As part of the follow-up operation, deputies conducted a search at a nearby home on Celtic Drive in Eastanollee, where Price had reportedly been staying with other fugitives.
During that search, authorities also arrested 48-year-old James Saylors of Toccoa, who was wanted in Stephens County for two bench warrants and failure to appear on multiple felony charges, officials said.
Long History of Evasion
Investigators noted that Price had repeatedly evaded law enforcement during the three years he was on the run. His arrest now brings closure to a multi-county manhunt that had stretched across state lines.
Residents with information about fugitives or suspicious activity are encouraged to contact local authorities or the Stephens County Sheriff’s Office.
