Stray bullet hits east Charlotte home, resident blames nearby apartment complex

Stray Bullet Slams Into Charlotte Home as Resident Points to Nearby Apartment

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — A Country Club Heights homeowner says he and his wife narrowly escaped injury after a stray bullet struck their home late Monday night, an incident he blames on frequent gunfire coming from a nearby apartment complex.

Homeowner Says Gunfire Has Become ‘White Noise’

Bryson Rogers told Queen City News that the gunfire near his Bentley Place home has become a near-weekly occurrence, but Monday’s incident was the first time his property was hit. “We heard one shot go off and my wife and I were like, ‘Oh, is that a firework or was that a gunshot?’ Then you hear five to eight very loud, very rapid fires,” Rogers said. “My wife and I had to fall to the floor to get out of the way of a bullet possibly coming through the house.”

When the noise stopped, Rogers discovered that a bullet had ricocheted off the brick wall of his home before striking the back patio where he and his wife often relax in the evenings. “The fact it hit right here, which is where we often stand and have a bunch of friends over for bonfires, what have you, is the most humbling part of it,” Rogers said.

Bullet Appears to Have Come From Nearby Apartments

Rogers said the trajectory of the bullet appeared to lead back toward the Country Club Apartments, which sit just beyond his property line. “When you draw a line from here to the hole on the house, everything directs back to the apartment complex,” he explained.

He claims that problems from the complex have persisted for years, ranging from trash blowing into neighboring yards to frequent nighttime gunfire. “Over here, we’ve got glass bottles, we’ve got stuff that might have blown away from their overfilled trash cans, but some of it is weighted — which is definitely just a toss out the window,” Rogers said.

Frustration With Property Management

Rogers said he has reached out multiple times to Concordia Properties, which manages the Country Club Apartments, to address the ongoing issues but claims the company has been unresponsive. Queen City News confirmed they reached out to the management firm but have not received a response.

“It becomes white noise, unfortunately, over time with the gunshots and the gunshots,” Rogers said. “Now, this is a whole new level because not only is it a gunshot, but there’s a reaction from it — an impact that directly affects me, my wife, and all our friends.”

Police and Community Response

Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police have not confirmed whether any arrests were made in connection with Monday’s shooting but said patrols have increased in the area as they continue investigating reports of reckless gunfire.
