Cold Front to Bring Major Weather Changes to Southeast Georgia and the Lowcountry Later This Week
SAVANNAH, Ga. — Big weather changes are on the way for Southeast Georgia and the South Carolina Lowcountry later this week, as a cold front approaches from the northwest, promising cooler, drier air and an end to the region’s humid pattern.
Cold Front Arrives Midweek
Meteorologist Austin Green with WJCL 22 News said the cold front is expected to move into the area Wednesday night into Thursday morning, bringing with it scattered showers and thunderstorms as it passes.
Once the front moves through, temperatures will drop below normal for several days. Highs will hover in the mid to upper 70s through the weekend, while nighttime lows dip into the 50s in some inland areas.
Rip Current Risk and Coastal Flooding Continue Early Week
Before the front’s arrival, rough coastal conditions will persist. A high rip current risk remains in place through Tuesday evening for Southeast Georgia beaches, along with minor coastal flooding possible during high tides.
Forecasters warn beachgoers to avoid swimming in unguarded areas and to use caution near piers and jetties.
Drier, Cooler Air Behind the Front
Behind the front, humidity levels will drop sharply, creating a refreshing air mass for the weekend. Rain chances are expected to fade by Saturday, allowing for several days of clear skies and comfortable conditions.
“The one wild card,” Green noted, “is an area of low pressure that could form offshore once the front passes. If it develops closer to the coast, a few lingering showers could stick around through Friday.”
Weekend Forecast Looks Ideal
Regardless of where the offshore low tracks, the upcoming weekend looks beautiful for outdoor plans, with sunshine and cooler air stretching through Sunday.
Meanwhile, the National Hurricane Center continues to monitor two disturbances in the Atlantic, including Invest 95-L, which has a high chance of developing into a tropical depression. Current models suggest it will turn northward and remain well offshore of the U.S.
