Fire Crews Battle Blaze in Trailers Behind Spartanburg County Strip Mall; Cause Under Investigation

SPARTANBURG COUNTY, SOUTH CAROLINA — Fire crews responded to a Saturday afternoon blaze behind a strip mall on Cedar Springs Road, where two trailers caught fire, sending thick smoke into the air but causing no reported injuries, officials said.

Fire Breaks Out Behind Commercial Property

The Spartanburg City Fire Department confirmed that units were dispatched around 4 p.m. after reports of trailers burning behind a row of businesses in Spartanburg County.

When firefighters arrived, flames were visible from both trailers, located behind the main buildings of the strip mall. Crews quickly established a perimeter and worked to prevent the fire from spreading to nearby businesses.

“Our teams responded within minutes and were able to contain the fire before it reached any occupied structures,” an official said.

No Injuries Reported

Authorities confirmed that no one was hurt in the fire. The trailers were unoccupied at the time of the incident, and nearby businesses were evacuated as a precaution.

Video from the scene showed smoke billowing above Cedar Springs Road, while fire crews doused the remaining hotspots to prevent rekindling.

Cause of Fire Remains Unknown

Investigators are still working to determine what caused the blaze. Early assessments suggest the fire may have started in one trailer before spreading to the second, but officials say it is too early to draw conclusions.

The Spartanburg County Fire Marshal’s Office and local law enforcement remain on scene conducting a joint investigation.

“We’ll be reviewing any surveillance footage from nearby businesses to piece together what happened,” one investigator said.

Businesses Temporarily Affected

The fire caused temporary power outages for several nearby stores as utility crews worked to disconnect lines running behind the strip mall. Businesses reopened Saturday evening once the area was deemed safe.

Local residents thanked firefighters for their swift response.

“They were here so fast,” said Susan Smith, who recorded video of the flames. “You could see how quickly they got things under control.”

Community Safety Reminder

Officials urged residents and business owners to review fire safety precautions, especially around storage areas and outbuildings that can catch fire easily.

“Even something as small as discarded cigarette ashes or electrical cords can ignite a fire,” said one firefighter. “Always keep flammable materials away from trailers or sheds.”

The investigation remains ongoing, and officials expect to release more details in the coming days.
