Currituck County Woman Arrested After K-9 Sniffs Out Meth in Vehicle

GRANDY, N.C. — A Currituck County woman is facing multiple charges after deputies discovered methamphetamine in her vehicle with the help of a K-9 unit.

Crash Leads Deputies to Suspect

On Thursday, deputies responded to the 6300 block of Caratoke Highway following reports of a motor vehicle accident where the driver fled the scene. Officers soon located the vehicle nearby and observed the driver, later identified as Amanda Davenport, 37, removing items and appearing impaired.

K-9 Arty Detects Narcotics

While investigating, deputies saw drug paraphernalia inside the vehicle. A Southern Shores K-9 unit already in the area conducted an air sniff. K-9 Arty alerted to narcotics, prompting a search that uncovered approximately 12 grams of methamphetamine, along with needles and drug pipes.

Charges Filed

Davenport was arrested and issued warrants for:

  • Driving while impaired
  • Leaving the scene of an accident
  • Failure to maintain lane control
  • Careless and reckless driving
  • Driving while license suspended
  • Possession with intent to sell or deliver Schedule II controlled substances
  • Maintaining a vehicle for controlled substance use
  • Possession of drug paraphernalia

Authorities have not released bond information. The case remains under investigation by the Currituck County Sheriff’s Office.
