Tense Georgia Standoff as Woman Demands Medical Care for ICE Detainee
RINGGOLD, Ga. – A dramatic encounter between police and a bystander has gone viral after a Facebook livestream showed a woman confronting officers during the arrest of a man who was later taken into ICE custody.
Traffic Stop Leads to Struggle
The incident began when a Georgia State Patrol trooper pulled over a white van driven by Obrey Jiminez, who officers said ran a red light. The stop escalated into a struggle, with Jiminez later arrested for driving without a license and obstruction.
Intervention Captured on Video
As officers detained Jiminez, Jade Michalski began filming the encounter and demanding medical attention for the suspect, claiming officers were ignoring his condition.
Video shows Michalski stepping between officers and a patrol car holding Jiminez, repeatedly asking if an ambulance had been called. Dispatchers attempted to request one, but none were available at the time.
Arrest of Bystander
When officers told Michalski that Jiminez would be taken to jail for medical treatment instead, Michalski refused to move, standing in front of the vehicle. “I will not move,” she shouted in the video before being detained.
Michalski was charged with disorderly conduct and obstruction and taken into custody by Ringgold police.
ICE Custody and Ongoing Questions
Jiminez was later transferred to Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) custody, according to the Catoosa County Sheriff. Officials have not released details on whether he received medical treatment before being moved.
Attorney McCracken Poston, who is familiar with Michalski’s family, noted the legal complexity of such cases. “Videoing these encounters is not intrusive,” he said, “but other actions may cross the line into obstruction.”
Community Response
Supporters, including Michalski’s friend Elizabeth Haley, defended the intervention. “Jade saw a brown man being arrested and harassed, asking for medical care. And as any decent human would, they stepped in to make sure he got that care,” Haley said.
The incident has raised concerns about law enforcement practices, the rights of bystanders, and medical treatment for detainees awaiting immigration proceedings.
