Weather Alert Issued for Central North Carolina Saturday Morning
RALEIGH, NORTH CAROLINA – The National Weather Service (NWS) issued a special weather statement early Saturday morning warning of dense fog across parts of central North Carolina.
Alert Covers 23 Counties
The alert was issued at 6:28 a.m. and was in effect until 9:15 a.m. Counties under the advisory included:
Person, Granville, Vance, Warren, Halifax, Orange, Durham, Franklin, Nash, Edgecombe, Chatham, Wake, Johnston, Wilson, Stanly, Montgomery, Moore, Lee, Harnett, Wayne, Anson, Richmond, Scotland, Hoke, Cumberland, and Sampson.
Fog Reduces Visibility
Officials said patchy fog developed across portions of central NC, with some areas seeing visibility reduced to as little as a quarter mile.
Motorists were urged to be especially cautious during the morning commute.
“Drive at reduced speeds and use low beam headlights only,” the NWS advised.
Morning Travel Impacted
The fog lifted by late morning, but the NWS reminded drivers that conditions could change quickly and visibility may drop again in isolated areas.
