WEST PALM BEACH, FL — A Taco Bell employee was arrested after allegedly opening fire on a group of female customers inside a West Palm Beach Taco Bell location, injuring two women following a confrontation that erupted after one customer filled a water cup with soda at the fountain dispenser.
Three women had requested water cups when one of them filled her cup with soda instead, triggering a verbal confrontation with the employee that rapidly and violently escalated into a shooting incident inside the fast food restaurant.
Confrontation Escalates From Argument to Shooting
The 20-year-old employee confronted the three women after observing the soda being filled into the water cup, yelling at the group before the situation turned violent. The employee allegedly swung a firearm at one of the women while discharging it, grazing one customer and injuring a second with minor wounds during the initial exchange inside the restaurant.
Rather than the confrontation ending there, the employee then chased the group of women outside the establishment and allegedly fired again, extending the violent and dangerous situation beyond the interior of the restaurant and into the surrounding area.
Two Victims Sustain Non-Life-Threatening Injuries
Two of the three women sustained injuries as a result of the shooting, with both victims driving themselves to the hospital following the incident. Injuries for both women were described as non-life-threatening, with one customer grazed by gunfire and the second sustaining minor wounds during the violent altercation inside and outside the West Palm Beach Taco Bell location.
The fact that the victims were able to transport themselves to medical care indicated the injuries, while serious, did not require immediate emergency medical response at the scene.
Employee Claims Self-Defense Against Witness and Video Evidence
Following his arrest, the employee claimed self-defense, alleging that the customers had jumped over the counter during the confrontation. However, that account was reportedly directly contradicted by both video footage captured at the scene and witness statements provided to law enforcement, undermining the self-defense claim presented by the accused.
