Two Adults and Child Displaced After Virginia Beach Home Fire; Cause Under Investigation

VIRGINIA BEACH, VIRGINIA — A Saturday afternoon house fire in Virginia Beach displaced two adults and one child, according to fire officials. No injuries were reported.

The Virginia Beach Fire Department said crews were called to the 700 block of Saint Nicolas Square around 2:55 p.m. after receiving reports of heavy smoke coming from a two-story home.

When firefighters arrived, they found thick smoke billowing from the second floor. Crews quickly worked to contain the flames, marking the fire under control by 3:08 p.m. and completely extinguished by 3:31 p.m.

No One Home When Fire Broke Out

Authorities confirmed that no one was inside the home at the time of the fire. Two adults and one child who lived there were later displaced as a result of the damage.

Fire officials said the blaze originated in an upstairs bedroom, though the cause remains under investigation.

“We’re thankful that no one was home when the fire broke out and that no injuries occurred,” a Virginia Beach Fire Department spokesperson said. “Our investigators are still working to determine what started the fire.”

Community and Red Cross Support

While the home suffered significant damage, firefighters were able to prevent the flames from spreading to neighboring properties. The American Red Cross has been contacted to assist the displaced family with emergency housing and other resources.

Officials are reminding residents to ensure their smoke alarms are working properly and to have a family fire escape plan in place — particularly as colder weather increases the risk of household fires.

Investigation Ongoing

Fire investigators are continuing to examine the scene and interview neighbors as they work to identify the cause. No foul play is suspected at this time.

Residents in the area said they were alarmed to see smoke filling the sky but praised firefighters for their quick response.

“They got here fast and handled it right away,” one nearby homeowner said. “It could have been a lot worse.”

Anyone with information or photos from the incident is encouraged to contact the Virginia Beach Fire Marshal’s Office.
