Three Adults Arrested After 11-Month-Old Found Locked In Car While They Bar-Hopped For Hours On Austin’s Sixth Street

TEXAS — Three adults were arrested after an 11-month-old boy was found locked inside a cold vehicle while the group allegedly spent hours bar-hopping on Austin’s Sixth Street, according to an arrest affidavit.

Police Find Baby Wedged Face-Down In Vehicle At 36 Degrees

Authorities identified the suspects as Gabrielle Aleman, 22, Isaiah Calvo, 25, and Jaslyn Tovar, 21, who were taken into custody early December 15. All three were charged with child abandonment or endangerment involving an imminent risk of serious harm or death.

Police located the baby around 1:25 a.m. after breaking into a Honda Accord parked near East Fifth and San Jacinto streets. The infant was crying, wedged face-down between the seat and an overturned, unsecured car seat. The outside temperature was 36 degrees, raising immediate concerns for the baby’s safety. Paramedics evaluated the child at the scene and confirmed no physical injuries.

Group Bar-Hopped For Hours As Infant Was Left Alone In Car

Investigators say surveillance footage showed the three adults entering Sixth Street bars at 9:56 p.m. and remaining there until their arrests at 11:42 p.m. Officers initially encountered the trio just after midnight when they were seen illegally crossing near East Sixth and Trinity streets. When police attempted to detain them, Aleman and Calvo fled, but all three were eventually caught and charged on unrelated violations at the time.

None Of The Suspects Told Police A Baby Was Missing

Despite multiple interactions with officers, none of the three adults mentioned the infant. Police only learned about the child an hour later when Aleman’s aunt called authorities reporting that the baby had been left inside a car. When questioned at the Travis County Jail, Aleman first claimed the child was with her sister in Lockhart. During interviews, all three suspects admitted they had left the baby alone and acknowledged the situation was avoidable.

Infant Removed From Dangerous Conditions As Case Moves Forward

Police say the baby was safely removed and is now under appropriate care. Investigators continue reviewing the group’s timeline and actions throughout the night as the endangerment case proceeds through the court system.
