Road Closures Planned at SC State University for Construction Work Beginning Sept. 10
ORANGEBURG, S.C. — Travelers in and around South Carolina State University should prepare for temporary road closures and detours beginning Tuesday, September 10, as construction crews complete work on the university’s newest academic building.
Utility Tie-Ins for New Academic Building
Crews will be conducting utility tie-ins to the new academic center at the heart of campus. The work is scheduled to run from September 10 through September 12, with closures beginning at 4 p.m. on Tuesday.
“We expect the work to be completed by 5 p.m. September 12,” said Ken Davis, SC State’s Associate Vice President for Facilities Management, Planning and Construction.
Road Closures and Detours
- Gaethers Street will be closed from the fork at the Thelma Howard Williams Rose Garden to Lance Street beginning Tuesday afternoon.
- Traffic will be rerouted to Naylor Street, with access available from Pinckney, Rucker, and Lance streets.
- Gaethers Street will remain open between Lance and Buckley streets.
Officials say both directions of travel on Naylor Street will remain available to keep traffic flowing through campus during the project.
Impact on Travelers
The university is advising students, staff, and visitors to allow extra travel time when heading to campus. Drivers are urged to follow posted detour signs and exercise caution near work zones.
