North Carolina Man, 21, Hit With Over 30 Charges in Multi-County Vehicle Break-In Spree

ALEXANDER COUNTY, N.C. — A 21-year-old man is facing more than 30 criminal charges after authorities linked him to a string of vehicle break-ins across multiple western North Carolina counties.

Suspect Arrested After Suspicious Activity

Deputies with the Alexander County Sheriff’s Office arrested Kayne Lavance Alford-Bruce on September 12 in the Bethlehem area. The arrest came after a report of a suspicious person looking into vehicles near Bowmans Court. Deputies later located him in the Wittenburg Springs Development, where he was taken into custody.

Officials said the arrest followed an investigation that began in May, after numerous reports of break-ins were filed in the community.

Facing More Than 30 Charges

Alford-Bruce is charged with:

  • 17 counts of breaking and entering a motor vehicle
  • 3 counts of attempted breaking and entering a motor vehicle
  • 3 counts of larceny of a firearm
  • 7 counts of larceny
  • 1 count of larceny of a motor vehicle

He is being held at the Alexander County Detention Center on a $350,000 bond, with his first court appearance scheduled for September 15 in Alexander County District Court.

Investigators Believe Others May Be Involved

Authorities believe Alford-Bruce is part of a group tied to vehicle break-ins across several jurisdictions, including Caldwell, Burke, and Catawba counties, as well as the cities of Hickory and Longview. The sheriff’s office said more charges are possible as the investigation continues.
