Motorcyclist Dies Days After Crash in Watauga County, State Troopers Say

WATAUGA COUNTY, N.C. — A motorcyclist who was critically injured in a weekend crash in Watauga County has died, according to the North Carolina State Highway Patrol (SHP).

The collision occurred on Saturday, September 20, around 4 p.m. on Pottertown Road near Meat Camp Road.

Crash Details

Troopers said Michael Lyn Holman, 51, of Elk Park, was riding a 1998 Harley-Davidson eastbound when he attempted to pass another vehicle in a no-passing zone.

Holman lost control, causing the motorcycle to overturn, and was then struck by a westbound 2017 Jeep Compass.

Aftermath and Investigation

Holman was rushed to Atrium Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center in Winston-Salem, where he died on September 22, two days after the crash.

The driver of the Jeep, a 19-year-old, was not injured.

Authorities confirmed the crash investigation does not indicate impairment as a factor, and no charges will be filed.

Pottertown Road was closed for about two hours while troopers conducted their on-scene investigation.
