Michigan Teen Charged With Murder After PlayStation Dispute Leaves 18-Year-Old Girl Dead and Another Man Injured
DETROIT, MI — A 17-year-old Detroit teen is being held without bond after prosecutors say a PlayStation pawn shop dispute turned deadly, resulting in the fatal shooting of an 18-year-old girl and injury to another man.
According to the Macomb County Prosecutor’s Office, the suspect, identified as Lorenza Bernard Lancaster, 17, was walking with Kavonta Maurice Plummer, 20, and a 22-year-old man on December 10, 2025, when an argument erupted over identification while the group was on their way to pawn a PlayStation.
When tensions flared, the trio returned to a home on Sussex Street, where prosecutors say the confrontation escalated.
Deadly Confrontation Inside the Home
Investigators allege that once inside, Lancaster and Plummer refused to leave unless the 22-year-old man handed over the PlayStation console. The man reportedly went upstairs to retrieve it and was shot in the arm as he came back downstairs.
The bullet passed through his arm and struck an 18-year-old girl standing beside him, prosecutors said. She was rushed to the hospital but later died from her injuries.
The male victim survived the shooting.
“This tragedy began as a simple trip to sell a gaming console and ended with the loss of a young life,” a prosecutor’s spokesperson said.
Charges and Court Appearances
Lancaster is charged with First-Degree Murder, Assault with Intent to Murder, and two counts of Felony Firearm. He is being tried as an adult and was arraigned in 36th District Court, where a judge denied bond due to the severity of the charges.
Plummer faces several related charges, including Accessory After the Fact, Resisting and Obstructing a Police Officer, and Carrying a Concealed Weapon. He was arraigned earlier and released on a $100,000 personal bond with a GPS tether for monitoring.
Community Shock and Ongoing Investigation
Authorities said the case remains under investigation as they review ballistic evidence and surveillance footage from the area.
Residents in the west Detroit neighborhood expressed shock over the deadly argument, calling it another senseless example of violence involving young people and firearms.
“It’s heartbreaking — a disagreement over a video game system shouldn’t end like this,” said one neighbor who asked not to be identified.
The Detroit Police Department is urging anyone with additional information about the shooting to contact investigators or submit anonymous tips through Crime Stoppers of Michigan.
