Kansas City Weather: Light Rain Monday Night, Then Heat Builds Into Midweek

KANSAS CITY, M.O. — Light rain could move into parts of western Missouri Monday night, but forecasters say the bigger story will be the warming trend that follows, pushing temperatures well above average through midweek.

Light Rain Chances Monday Night

The National Weather Service in Kansas City reported that the best chance for showers will be west of Interstate 35, where totals are expected to stay under a quarter of an inch.

Most neighborhoods east of I-35, including much of Kansas City proper, are likely to remain dry. Travel impacts should be minimal, though slick roads could develop in spots west of the metro.

Heat Builds Midweek

By Wednesday, temperatures are forecast to climb into the upper 80s and low 90s across much of Missouri.

Cities like Kansas City, St. Joseph, and Chillicothe could see highs in the mid-90s by Thursday, while areas farther south such as Sedalia and Butler may push toward 96°F.

Humidity Raises Heat Risks

Rising humidity will make conditions feel hotter, with heat index values climbing above actual temperatures. Forecasters warn that the combination could increase the risk of heat stress during outdoor work or sports.

Residents are urged to stay hydrated, limit strenuous activity during peak afternoon hours, and watch for signs of heat-related illness.

Looking Ahead

As rain chances fade, the main concern will be the stretch of above-normal heat lasting into late week.

Officials say more updates are expected from the National Weather Service as forecasters track how long the hot pattern may persist.
