Detroit Man Charged After 12 Gun Crimes Lead to High-Speed Chase and Police Shooting
DETROIT, MI — Federal and state investigators have released dramatic new video showing the chaotic moments that ended a citywide manhunt for a Detroit man accused of 12 gun-related crimes, including multiple shootings and carjackings, that culminated in an officer-involved shooting near Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard and Cass Avenue in November.
According to officials, 33-year-old Terrance Markyce Davis of Detroit was wanted in connection with one non-fatal shooting and 11 shots-fired incidents across the city between November 5 and November 13. The investigation involved the Detroit Police Department (DPD), Michigan State Police, and ATF (Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives).
Police Link Suspect to Multiple Shootings
Investigators said Davis’s alleged crime spree included gunfire into homes, vehicles, and neighborhoods, as well as a non-fatal shooting on November 5, where a victim reported being struck through a window while sitting inside a residence. The victim suffered gunshot wounds to the shoulder and neck but survived.
DPD officers used surveillance footage, ballistic evidence, and 911 audio to connect Davis to the series of violent incidents.
High-Speed Chase and Carjackings Captured on Video
The newly released aerial footage — recorded from a DPD helicopter — shows the suspect running to his vehicle and fleeing as officers approached. Police said Davis drove recklessly through residential neighborhoods, cutting across lawns, hitting sidewalks, and crashing into a house.
As he tried to evade capture, Davis pointed a firearm at a bystander, attempted multiple carjackings, and was seen successfully stealing a vehicle at gunpoint from a Detroit gas station.
“The level of danger posed to the public during this chase was extraordinary,” said a DPD spokesperson. “Officers acted quickly to stop further harm while following strict pursuit procedures.”
Gunfire Exchanged During ATF Confrontation
ATF agents responding to the carjacking exchanged gunfire with Davis as he continued to flee. Police say he remained armed and refused to surrender. The chase finally ended when Michigan State Police performed a PIT maneuver, causing Davis’s vehicle to roll over on a major roadway.
Authorities say Davis exited the vehicle still armed and advanced toward officers while ignoring repeated commands to drop his weapon. Officers fired multiple shots, striking Davis.
Officers immediately rendered first aid and recovered the suspect’s firearm from the scene.
Federal Charges Filed
Davis was later indicted by a federal grand jury on charges including:
- Carjacking
- Assaulting and attempting to murder federal ATF agents
- Use of a firearm during a violent crime
If convicted, Davis faces life in federal prison.
“This case highlights the coordinated effort between city, state, and federal partners to stop a highly dangerous individual,” said Detroit Police Chief James White. “We are grateful no innocent lives were lost during this ordeal.”
Investigation and Review Ongoing
Authorities confirmed that both criminal and internal reviews are now underway regarding the officer-involved shooting. Police also plan to release the full aerial and body camera footage after the review process concludes.
Davis remains in federal custody awaiting trial.
