California Teen Finds Razor Blade Hidden in Halloween Candy Bar, Prompting Police Warning

GILROY, Calif. — A teen in Gilroy, California made a shocking discovery after biting into a Halloween candy bar — only to find a razor blade hidden inside, according to local authorities.

The Gilroy Police Department said the teen was not seriously hurt, but the incident has sparked a citywide warning to parents to thoroughly inspect leftover Halloween candy before allowing children to eat it.

Razor Blade Found Inside Candy Bar

Police said the incident occurred after the teen bit into what appeared to be a normal chocolate bar, but quickly realized something sharp was embedded inside. Upon inspection, the teen and family found a metal razor blade concealed within the candy.

Officials released a photo of the tampered candy, showing part of the razor embedded in the bar. The discovery has renewed community concerns about Halloween candy tampering, a recurring safety issue that resurfaces each year across the country.

Police Issue Community Alert

Authorities in Gilroy are now urging residents to check all unopened and leftover candy — even sealed packages — for signs of tampering such as holes, rewrapping, or punctures.

“We want to ensure the safety of our community’s children,” Gilroy police said in a public advisory. “Please check your children’s candy carefully and report anything suspicious immediately.”

Police have not yet identified where the candy originated or if it was collected during trick-or-treating in the Gilroy area. Investigators are working to determine whether this was an isolated case or part of a larger pattern.

Parents Urged to Stay Vigilant

Health and safety experts recommend that parents inspect all candy for irregular packaging, foreign objects, or signs of resealing. Any questionable items should be discarded or turned over to authorities for testing.

“Even one incident like this is enough to remind everyone to be cautious,” said one Gilroy parent reacting to the alert online. “You never think it will happen in your own neighborhood.”

The Gilroy Police Department encourages anyone who finds tampered candy or has similar reports to contact their local police right away.
