Alabama Weekend Rain Arrives Late Saturday Night Across Birmingham, Tuscaloosa, and Surrounding Areas With Record Heat Expected Friday

ALABAMA — A First Alert Weather update issued at 5:40 AM Thursday brings good news for drought-stricken Alabama residents as rain chances are finally increasing heading into the weekend. Before the rain arrives, Friday will bring near-record heat with some spots pushing into the upper 80s to near 90 degrees across the state, while the weekend rain system is expected to move through primarily during overnight hours, keeping most daytime outdoor events dry.

A few isolated showers are possible Thursday mainly across northern Alabama, but the main rain event holds off until late Saturday night before tracking through the region into Sunday morning across different zones of the state.

Weekend Rain Timing by Region

Forecast timing graphics provided a clear breakdown of when rain will reach different parts of Alabama this weekend. Northwestern Alabama communities will see rain arrive between 7 PM Saturday and 8 AM Sunday, while Central Alabama including Birmingham and Tuscaloosa can expect rain between 10 PM Saturday and 9 AM Sunday.

Southeastern Alabama faces the latest arrival, with rain moving through between 1 AM and 11 AM Sunday morning. Forecasters emphasized that most of this rain moves through while residents are sleeping, meaning the weekend will not be a washout and daytime outdoor plans remain largely intact for most of the state.

Major Weekend Events Weather Outlook

Several large outdoor events are scheduled across Alabama this weekend, and forecasters provided specific weather details for each. The Morgan Wallen concert in Tuscaloosa will see warm and partly cloudy conditions in the 80s, with the main rain line arriving late evening and a few isolated showers possible before 10 PM.

Auburn’s A-Day game will enjoy mostly sunny skies with a high near 84 degrees, making for excellent football weather. The Birmingham Stallions game looks dry and partly sunny with highs in the 80s. The Widespread Panic concert at Coca-Cola Amphitheater will see temperatures falling into the 70s with a breezy feel and scattered showers possible by 10 PM.

Long Range Outlook Offers More Rain Hope

While this weekend’s system will only deliver around 0.25 inches of rain for most areas — not enough to bust the ongoing drought — long-range signals are pointing toward a better chance for heavier rainfall and storms arriving late next week. Residents should continue monitoring forecasts as the week progresses for updates on the more significant rain potential.
