Two Teenagers Killed in Tragic Florida Crash Involving 75-Year-Old Driver on State Road 33

FLORIDA — Two high school students were killed and several others injured in a devastating two-car crash on State Road 33 in Florida on Saturday evening. Authorities say the crash involved a 16-year-old girl and her 17-year-old boyfriend, both from South Lake High School, and a 75-year-old Lakeland man driving an SUV.

Deadly Collision on State Road 33

The crash happened around 6 p.m. on November 15, when a 16-year-old driver behind the wheel of a 2008 Toyota Scion attempted to pass another vehicle in a no-passing zone, according to reports from the Orlando Sentinel, Fox 35 Orlando, and the Florida Highway Patrol.

Troopers said the teen driver moved into the northbound lane but quickly saw a 2021 Lincoln Aviator heading straight toward her. As she tried to return to her lane, she lost control of her vehicle and swerved back into the SUV’s path. The impact caused the Scion to overturn, killing both the driver and her passenger at the scene.

Victims Identified as South Lake High School Students

Officials identified the victims as 16-year-old Jade and her 17-year-old boyfriend, Jose Ivan. Both were students at South Lake High School in Groveland, according to Lake County Schools.

“We are deeply saddened to confirm the tragic loss of two South Lake High School students,” the district said in a public statement. “Grief counselors will be available on campus throughout the week. Together, we will lean on one another and support our community during this difficult time.”

Multiple Injuries Reported

The 75-year-old man driving the Lincoln Aviator sustained minor injuries and was hospitalized along with his passengers — a 66-year-old woman and a 5-year-old boy. A 6-year-old child who was also riding in the Lincoln was seriously injured and remains hospitalized.

Authorities have not announced whether any charges will be filed, but the Florida Highway Patrol is continuing to investigate the cause of the collision.

Community Mourning the Loss

Friends and family of the victims described Jade and Jose as a loving, inseparable couple who had a bright future ahead of them. The community of Groveland has been heartbroken by the sudden loss, with classmates leaving messages, photos, and flowers outside the school entrance.

“This tragedy has touched everyone who knew them,” one classmate shared online. “They were young, kind, and full of life — it’s just devastating.”

Counseling services are being provided for students and staff as the school community grieves together.

Authorities are asking anyone who witnessed the crash or may have dashcam footage from the area around State Road 33 near Polk County on Saturday evening to contact the Florida Highway Patrol.
