Meriwether County Families Terrorized as Packs of Wild Dogs Kill Livestock and Pets for Months With No Action From Authorities

MERIWETHER COUNTY, GEORGIA – Families in Meriwether County say they are living in fear after repeated attacks by packs of wild dogs have left their livestock and pets dead over several months — with the most recent killings occurring during the week of Halloween. Residents report that despite contacting animal control multiple times, no meaningful action has been taken.

Multiple Animals Killed Across the County

Kristi Peterson of Greenville shared footage of dogs violently attacking her goats, chickens, and other animals in her backyard. She walked Channel 2’s Eryn Rogers through the aftermath, pointing out damage to her property where the dogs tore panels from enclosures.

“I started with 50 chickens. They’re gone, my two turkeys, our two goats,” Peterson said, describing the devastating loss. Photos from her home show destroyed fencing and scattered livestock remains.

Another resident showed reporters video from August and September, where the same or similar dogs attacked and killed her chickens and cat. Many neighbors have also posted images of their dead animals in local Facebook groups.

Families Say They Feel Unsafe in Their Own Homes

Peterson told reporters that she and her family — including her pig, dogs, and children — now feel like “prisoners” in their own home because of the ongoing threat from the roaming dogs.

“I want more people aware of these dogs and what’s going on,” she said. “If people know what’s going on maybe they can save their animals’ lives before they lose them like me and my kids did or everyone else on my street.”

Residents have described sleepless nights, constantly checking their yards and pens, and feeling unsafe letting their children or pets outside.

No Response From Animal Control Despite Repeated Calls

Peterson said she has contacted animal control several times, but has received “no updates” and no indication that the attacks are being handled. Other neighbors say they have also reached out to county officials but have been left without answers.

Animal control later confirmed that an investigation is open, but stated they could not release further details until the case is closed. Residents, however, say the lack of communication has left them helpless as the attacks continue.

Community Calls for Urgent Action

With families losing livestock, pets, and their sense of safety, community members are pleading for immediate action to contain and remove the dog packs before more harm occurs. Many fear the situation could escalate, especially with no indication that authorities are close to resolving the issue.
