Florida Teens Arrested After Attempted Car Burglary in Davenport — K-9 and Helicopter Help Track Them Down
DAVENPORT, FLORIDA — Two Florida teens were arrested Tuesday night after deputies say they attempted to break into a car in a Davenport neighborhood before trying to flee from law enforcement.
According to the Polk County Sheriff’s Office, deputies were called around 9:15 p.m. to the Atlantica Town Center neighborhood near Old Lake Wilson Road for reports of an attempted vehicle burglary.
When deputies arrived on the scene, the suspects reportedly ran from the area, jumping a nearby fence in an attempt to escape. Authorities quickly deployed the Aviation Unit and a K-9 team, who tracked the suspects to a hiding spot close by.
Suspects Identified After Search
Deputies identified the suspects as 19-year-old Warren Accoo III and 18-year-old Brian Cruz, both residents of the Davenport area.
After being located, both suspects were taken into custody without incident and transported to the Polk County Sheriff’s Processing Center.
Charges Filed
Investigators confirmed the pair now face multiple charges, including:
- Attempted Burglary of a Conveyance (F3)
- Trespassing on a Construction Site (F3)
- Resisting Without Violence (M1)
Authorities said no major property damage was reported, though the incident caused concern among residents in the area who saw the police search unfold late into the night.
Sheriff’s Office Response
Officials credited the combined teamwork of deputies, the Aviation Unit, and the K-9 team for the swift arrests.
“These suspects thought they could run and hide,” one sheriff’s spokesperson said. “But with air support and K-9 tracking, it’s only a matter of time before we find you.”
Community Safety Reminder
The Polk County Sheriff’s Office continues to urge residents to lock their vehicles and remain alert to suspicious activity, especially during evening hours.
The department also encouraged anyone witnessing a potential vehicle theft or break-in to call 911 immediately, reminding citizens that teamwork between the public and deputies plays a critical role in preventing further crimes.
