Viral Video Shows North Texas Woman Harassing Delivery Driver; Daughter Issues Public Apology

FLOWER MOUND, Texas — A viral video from North Texas has sparked outrage after showing a woman harassing a delivery driver with racist remarks, prompting a public apology from her daughter.

Harassment Caught on Video

The video, posted on Instagram Sept. 23 by delivery driver Cris Scandela, shows a woman confronting her outside a Walmart in Flower Mound. The woman can be heard using phrases like “you’re an illegal” and “you’re taking away jobs.”

Scandela said the woman followed her from the store and began taking photos after she got into her car. “When I saw that I was being recorded, I took out my phone and started recording, too,” Scandela explained in Spanish. She added that she did not intend to start a fight but wanted to document the encounter.

The post has since received more than 260,000 likes and spread widely across social media platforms.

Woman Identified, Daughter Responds

Public records identify the woman in the video as Tonya Chadwell, 58, of Flower Mound. While Chadwell has not commented publicly, her daughter, Taye Chadwell, posted an apology to Facebook on Sept. 24.

“I am completely and utterly embarrassed and saddened by my mother’s actions and do not condone or support this kind of behavior at all,” she wrote. Her post has drawn thousands of reactions and comments.

Taye added that she is not currently on speaking terms with her mother, citing “this type of behavior, aggression, and her racism towards my Hispanic boyfriend.”

Community Leaders Condemn Behavior

Flower Mound Mayor Cheryl Moore said Chadwell’s comments do not reflect the values of the community of roughly 80,000.

“We have many community events and opportunities to come together. We invite individuals from all ethnicities, all races, all religions. We strive to be inclusive with everyone,” Moore said.

Police confirmed that neither Scandela nor Chadwell filed a report regarding the incident.

Mistaken Identity Leads to Threats

Meanwhile, another woman named Tonya Chadwell, who lives in New Tazewell, Tennessee, told reporters she has received hundreds of hostile messages and even death threats after being mistaken for the woman in the viral video. She clarified she has no connection to the incident.

“I don’t know who the lady in the car is, but nobody needs to be talked to like that,” she said.
