GoFundMe Raises $25K in Less Than a Day for Family of Indiana Girl Killed by Semitruck

WARRICK COUNTY, Ind. — An Indiana community has come together to support the grieving family of 12-year-old Allison Lowery, who was killed Tuesday evening when she was struck by a semitruck while crossing the road. Within 24 hours of a GoFundMe campaign being launched, donations exceeded $25,000.

Pastor Launched Fundraiser for Family

The fundraiser was organized by Pastor Stephen Russ of Faithway Baptist Church, who said he wanted to ensure Allison received the farewell she deserved. He shared that Allison’s parents have drawn strength from their faith in the wake of tragedy, noting, “One of the things that we have been very comforted by is that they are taking comfort in the fact that their daughter knew the Lord.”

Russ added that the overwhelming generosity of the community has deeply moved the family. “To know that there are hundreds of people in this community who have supported, stepped in, stepped up and said, ‘We’re gonna help,’ it’s invaluable to them right now,” he said.

Details of the Fatal Accident

According to Warrick County Sheriff Mike Wilder, the collision happened near Sharon Road and State Route 66. Evidence from the scene showed that the truck driver had the green light and attempted to brake before striking Allison, who was crossing the street.

Sheriff Wilder called it a tragic accident that has left not only the Lowery family, but also first responders and witnesses shaken. Allison was a middle school student in the local area, remembered as a happy, positive, and joyful child whose presence will be greatly missed.

Celebration of Life Planned

A celebration of life service will be held for Allison on September 30 at Boone Funeral Home from noon to 6 p.m., open to all members of the community. Pastor Russ confirmed that every dollar raised through the GoFundMe campaign will go directly to the Lowery family to assist with funeral expenses and other immediate needs.

In his words, “Up to the very last day of her life, she was a happy, positive, joyful person. And we’re all gonna miss her very much.”

Community members are expected to continue offering support in the days ahead, as Warrick County rallies around the grieving family.
