Spokane Valley Man Arrested Twice in One Night After Knife-Wielding Vandalism
SPOKANE VALLEY, Wash. — A convicted felon marked his ninth arrest of 2025 after being taken into custody twice in one night, Spokane Valley Police said.
The suspect, identified as Tony Gust, 46, allegedly vandalized two businesses while armed with a 24-inch knife.
First Arrest: Drive-Thru Window Shattered
On September 22, deputies responded to a business on E. 1st Avenue after employees reported a man shattering a drive-thru window.
Officers said Gust was behaving erratically and armed with a large knife. Deputies were able to de-escalate the situation and take him into custody without further incident.
Released, Then Rearrested Hours Later
Gust was booked into the Spokane County Jail, but due to overcrowding, he was released shortly after.
Less than four hours later, police said he caused more than $6,500 in damage at another business on W. Summit Parkway. He was arrested again that same night.
Court Appearance and Bail Set
At his first court appearance on September 23, Gust’s bail was set at $36,500. He remains in custody.
Authorities noted this marks Gust’s ninth arrest in 2025, underscoring ongoing concerns about repeat offenders and jail overcrowding in Spokane County.
