Man Trapped in Southwest Airlines Bathroom Freed After Pilot Kicks Door Open
BALTIMORE, Md. — A Southwest Airlines flight from Florida to Baltimore took an unusual turn when a passenger became trapped inside the airplane bathroom, forcing the pilot to kick the door open mid-flight.
Passenger Stuck Mid-Flight
The incident was caught on camera by fellow passenger Cody Prokop (@codyprokop), who later shared the video on TikTok.
In the clip, flight attendants are seen trying to free the man before calling in the pilot. Seconds later, the pilot delivers a swift kick, breaking the door open. The passenger emerged looking shaken but unharmed, with a flight attendant quickly offering comfort.
Crew Protocols for Bathroom Emergencies
Aviation experts note that getting stuck in an airplane bathroom, while rare, can happen when the locking mechanism jams. Standard procedure calls for crew members to use an emergency release latch located on the outside of the door.
In this case, the latch either failed or was inaccessible, leading to the more dramatic intervention. “As this story shows, they will find a solution, even if it means brute force,” the report explained.
