NEWPORT, N.C. — Drivers in Carteret County should brace for slick roads and poor visibility Monday as thunderstorms sweep across eastern North Carolina.

Storms to Hit Monday Afternoon

The National Weather Service in Morehead City reports that showers and thunderstorms will become more widespread Monday morning, with the strongest storms expected after 2 p.m. Winds may gust up to 24 mph, creating additional hazards for high-profile vehicles.

Rainfall totals are projected between a quarter and three-quarters of an inch, with locally higher amounts possible in thunderstorms.

Communities from Havelock to Morehead City should prepare for:
