Gaffney Woman Charged in $21K Insurance Fraud Scheme After Faking Police Report
GAFFNEY, S.C. — The South Carolina Law Enforcement Division (SLED) has charged a Gaffney woman with insurance fraud after investigators say she faked a police report and tried to claim more than $21,000 from State Farm.
The Alleged Scheme
Authorities allege Sheinequa Ann Hemphill, 34, conspired with a man to create a false police report and submit fraudulent receipts to support an insurance claim.
According to SLED, Hemphill intended to split the payout with her unidentified co-conspirator.
Charges and Detention
Hemphill was booked into the Cherokee County Detention Center, where she also faces unrelated charges of burglary, kidnapping, and assault and battery.
Investigators have not released details about her alleged partner in the scheme, and it is unclear whether additional arrests will follow.
Ongoing Investigation
SLED has not disclosed whether State Farm issued any payment before detecting the fraud. Officials confirmed the case remains under investigation, and prosecutors will decide on further charges once the review is complete.
