South Carolina Yard Mystery: Bigfoot or Escaped Monkeys? Internet Still Divided

COLUMBIA, S.C. — A resurfaced video showing a mysterious creature tearing down tree branches in a South Carolina yard has reignited debate online, with theories ranging from escaped monkeys to the legendary Bigfoot.

Viral Video Sparks Debate

The footage, originally filmed by a South Carolina resident, shows large branches crashing down as something moves unseen through the trees. At one point, a massive branch lands on the man’s deck.

“I think I’m gonna bounce, because I think he just hit the ground. Which means he’s about to face me on foot, and I don’t really want to wrestle with someone who can tear a tree down,” the man says in the clip.

Bigfoot Believers vs. Logical Explanations

On Reddit, cryptid enthusiasts pointed to past claims of Sasquatch climbing trees. One user recalled a story from These Woods Are Haunted, in which a man described seeing a hairy figure in the trees — a warning his Native American father had given years earlier.

Skeptics, however, argued for a simpler explanation. Some suggested that the sounds and broken branches came from a tree that had already been knocked down and was slowly falling through other trees, creating the dramatic effect.

A Mystery With No Clear Answer

Others pointed to oddities in the video’s timing — noting that activity increased when the homeowner turned off his flashlight, leaving only the sound of branches breaking. Some viewers swore they saw “big masses in the trees,” only for them to vanish when the light came back on.

Despite hours of rewatching and online debate, no definitive answer has emerged. Theories continue to range from Bigfoot to feral monkeys, to simple natural causes.
