Car Crashes Into Carolina Kettle and Raleigh Gym, Police Searching for Driver

RALEIGH, N.C. — Police are searching for two people who fled after crashing a car into a potato chip store and a nearby gym on Hillsborough Street early Monday morning.

Crash Damages Local Businesses

Around 12:30 a.m., a vehicle plowed into Carolina Kettle, a kettle-cooked potato chip store, before slamming into the back wall of Goff Performance, a locally owned gym. The impact left a large hole in the brick and corrugated metal wall facing Hillsborough Street and extensive damage inside both businesses.

Witnesses Saw Occupants Flee

Witnesses told Raleigh police that both the driver and passenger abandoned the vehicle and left the scene. Officers searched the area but had not located the individuals as of early Monday morning. The car, heavily damaged with a crushed front bumper, was later towed away.

Owners React to Morning Aftermath

Both business owners arrived shortly after the crash to assess damage.

“It’s not ideal,” said Daniel Goff, owner of Goff Performance. “I’m going to close classes at least for today and make sure the building is structurally sound. Hopefully we’ll be back open tomorrow.”

Josh Monahan, owner of Carolina Kettle, said the impact damaged the store’s cash register. “Hopefully [it’s] just a couple days,” he added.

Community Connection

Carolina Kettle, opened in 2017 by Monahan, a North Carolina State University graduate, donates a portion of proceeds from each bag of chips to the Food Bank of Central and Eastern North Carolina.
