Raleigh Weather Alert: Cold Front Brings 15–20° Temperature Drop With Sunday Showers
RALEIGH, N.C. — A strong cold front swept through North Carolina Sunday, dropping temperatures by as much as 15 to 20 degrees compared to Saturday and bringing scattered showers across central and eastern counties.
Biggest Drop Felt in Triangle
The National Weather Service in Raleigh reported highs staying in the low to mid-70s across the Triangle, with slightly warmer conditions in the southeast corner of the state, where cities like Fayetteville, Clinton, and Laurinburg reached the lower 80s.
Scattered Showers and Storms
While much of central North Carolina saw only light rainfall, areas farther east, including Wilson and Rocky Mount, experienced heavier pockets of rain. Along the coast, forecasters warned of isolated thunderstorms developing near the Outer Banks.
Drivers across Wake, Durham, and Johnston counties were advised to watch for wet roads and allow extra time for travel during passing showers.
Cooler Air to Linger
The front ushers in a stretch of cooler weather that will persist through midweek. Highs are expected to remain in the 70s, with only gradual warming by late week.
Additional advisories may be issued if coastal storms intensify into the evening.
Raleigh residents can expect a refreshing change after recent late-summer heat, but forecasters urge flexibility with outdoor plans during periods of passing rain.
