‘All of you are going to die’: North Charleston Man Arrested After Threatening Children and Killing Family Dog

NORTH CHARLESTON, SOUTH CAROLINA — A 30-year-old man is behind bars after a disturbing domestic incident where he allegedly threatened his three young children and fatally shot the family’s pet dog.

Chavas Rhodes was arrested early Tuesday morning by North Charleston Police and is now facing multiple serious charges, including burglary, kidnapping, animal cruelty, and unlawful conduct toward a child.

Incident Unfolded Overnight on Dorchester Road

Police say the incident occurred around 12:30 a.m. at an apartment complex in the 6500 block of Dorchester Road. Rhodes reportedly entered the apartment uninvited while the children’s mother was outside in the parking lot.

According to an affidavit obtained by Law&Crime, one of the children recounted that Rhodes stormed in through an unlocked door yelling, “All of you are going to die tonight.”

Two of the frightened children immediately hid under a bed as the family’s rat-terrier mix chihuahua, named Logan, began barking. In response, Rhodes allegedly shot the dog dead in front of the children.

Children Hid in Fear, One Ran for Help

The chaos escalated as Rhodes reportedly ordered the two hiding children to leave the bedroom and follow him. During the turmoil, the third child managed to escape the apartment and seek help.

Police documents reveal that Rhodes then placed a blanket over the children’s heads and attempted to take them with him. One of the kids saw the lifeless body of their pet and collapsed in tears, refusing to go with the suspect.

Rhodes allegedly became more agitated and forced the children into a closet, warning them not to call anyone or he would hurt them.

Mother Returns, Rhodes Flees

One of the children managed to call their mother from the closet. She ran back to the apartment, where Rhodes reportedly pointed a gun at her before fleeing the scene by jumping off a balcony.

Authorities later located Rhodes hiding nearby and recovered the firearm he used, which had been discarded in a bush. Officers noted Rhodes appeared intoxicated at the time of his arrest.

The children, all under the age of 10, were left traumatized. A victim’s advocate told the court that “the victim and her minor children are deathly terrified of Mr. Rhodes,” according to The Post and Courier.

Domestic Violence History and Legal Action

Court records indicate that the children’s mother has an active domestic violence injunction against Rhodes. Despite that, he still managed to force his way into the home, escalating the family’s fears for their safety.

Rhodes is currently being held at the Al Cannon Detention Center without bond as the investigation continues.

This case has sparked renewed concern in the community over domestic violence and child endangerment. Authorities urge anyone experiencing abuse or threats at home to contact local resources and seek help.
