Charlotte Airport Opens Family Lane to Help Ease Security Wait Times
CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Families traveling through Charlotte Douglas International Airport now have access to a new security option designed to make the process faster and less stressful.
TSA Introduces “Families on the Fly”
The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) has launched a dedicated family lane at CLT as part of its nationwide “Families on the Fly” program. The initiative is aimed at helping parents, grandparents, and caregivers traveling with children under 12 navigate airport security more smoothly.
Designed to Reduce Stress for Parents
Travelers with kids often face long lines and challenges when moving strollers, car seats, diaper bags, toys, and electronics through checkpoints. TSA officials say the new lane is designed to reduce these pressures without compromising safety.
“This lane is essentially a concierge service for families,” TSA spokesperson Carter Langston explained. “It provides personalized assistance and resources to help families get through the screening process efficiently while maintaining the highest level of security.”
Personal Assistance from TSA Officers
TSA officers stationed at the family lane are available to help with child-related items, making the process less hurried. Parents say the move is a welcome change ahead of the busy Labor Day travel weekend, when many families take one final summer trip.
Part of a Nationwide Rollout
Charlotte is one of nine airports currently offering the program, alongside Honolulu’s Daniel K. Inouye International and Orlando International. The TSA plans to expand the family lane system to additional airports in the future.
At CLT, signage directs families to the dedicated lanes, which TSA hopes will not only ease the travel experience for parents but also help overall security lines move more efficiently.
