North Carolina Enters Calm Weather Stretch After Brief Flooding

RALEIGH, NC – After a soggy end to the workweek, North Carolina is now enjoying a welcome period of dry weather and sunshine. The National Weather Service reports no hazardous weather conditions expected across the state through at least Wednesday, allowing residents to enjoy a calm stretch into midweek.

Clear Skies, Comfortable Temps Expected Across the Region

Areas across central and eastern North Carolina, including Raleigh, Fayetteville, Durham, and Greensboro, will see mostly sunny skies, light northeast winds, and daytime highs near 89–91°F over the weekend. Overnight lows will fall into the upper 60s and low 70s, providing some relief from daytime heat.

This shift comes just days after minor flooding hit parts of Raleigh and surrounding areas on Friday, when localized heavy rain overwhelmed urban drainage systems. While the flooding caused brief travel delays, there were no major injuries or infrastructure damage reported.

Isolated Storm Chances Return Late Monday

Forecasters say the region will remain dry through Monday morning, with only a small chance of isolated showers by late afternoon. These showers are expected to be scattered and non-severe, with no weather advisories currently planned.

The forecast for central North Carolina includes:

  • Saturday: Sunny, high of 89°F, low of 69°F
  • Sunday: Sunny and warmer, high near 91°F
  • Monday: Slight chance of PM storms, high of 91°F
  • Tuesday & Wednesday: Mostly sunny, highs in the upper 80s

Residents Encouraged to Use the Break Wisely

After a summer filled with sporadic flash flooding and heat advisories, weather experts are encouraging North Carolinians to take advantage of this stretch of stability.

“This is a great time to plan any outdoor maintenance, short trips, or just enjoy the late summer sun,” said a regional NWS spokesperson. The consistent conditions will likely hold until late next week, when forecasters say storm patterns may begin to shift again.
