South Carolina Woman Killed, Another Injured; 3 Men Arrested After Shooting and Standoff

FAIRFIELD COUNTY, S.C. — A 37-year-old woman was shot and killed and another person injured Tuesday in a violent shooting in the Lake Wateree area of Fairfield County, authorities said. Three men have since been arrested — including the suspected gunman, who was taken into custody after a dramatic standoff in Greenville County.

Deadly Shooting Unfolds During Argument

According to deputies, the Fairfield County Sheriff’s Office responded to a report of gunfire at a home on Durham Place Road. Inside, they found one woman dead and another person suffering from a gunshot wound to the hip.

The victim who died was identified as Laporsha Jasma Farr, a 37-year-old woman from Spartanburg. Authorities said Thursday would have marked her 38th birthday.

The second victim was taken to Prisma Health Richland and remains in stable condition, according to WYFF News 4.

Suspects Flee, Then Captured

Deputies said the violence began when an argument broke out between three men and the two victims. One of the men, later identified as 41-year-old Jerry Jones of Greenville, allegedly pulled out a weapon and shot Farr in the neck, then shot the second victim in the hip before fleeing the scene with the two other men.

Authorities launched a multi-county manhunt. Benny Grady and William Mack were arrested without incident over the next two days. On Thursday, Jones was captured following a three-hour standoff in Greenville County.

Charges and Ongoing Investigation

Jones has been charged with:

  • Murder
  • Attempted murder
  • Possession of a weapon during a violent crime

Grady and Mack were each charged as accessories after the fact, officials confirmed.

Multiple agencies supported the case, including the Greenville County Sheriff’s Office, Greer Police, Spartanburg County Sheriff’s Office, and the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division (SLED).

Fairfield County Sheriff Will Montgomery said in a statement, “Our thoughts and prayers are with the victims of this case and I am grateful for a swift resolution to this devastating crime.”
